BIOCHEMISTRY

Study of basic principles of structure and function of carbohydrates, proteins, lipids, nucleic acids, vitamins, and coenzymes.

Study of metabolism, molecular biology, including gene expression and transfer of genetic material, enzymology, energy yield and its clinical applications. Course includes comprehensive review and lab methods.

PHYSIOLOGY

Study of the function of human organ systems which includes endocrine, renal, respiratory, cardiovascular, neural, and gastrointestinal mechanisms.

Study of normal functions of the systems of the body and their operational mode will be applied and compared to anatomic and pathologic states. Course includes comprehensive review and lab methods.

ANATOMY

Study of the normal structure of organs and systems of the human body. Also includes clinical correlation radiologically in understanding the structure of the human body. Lab work includes dissection of Cadavers by the students. Course includes comprehensive review and lab methods.

HISTOLOGY

Study of microscopic anatomy of cells, tissues and organs. Course includes comprehensive review and slide studies under both light and electron micrography.

EMBRYOLOGY

Study of basic principles of the development of the human body from gamesomeness to birth. Course includes comprehensive review of congenital malformations and toxic manifestations leading to congenital abnormalities of human organ systems.

GENETICS

The study of classic Mendelian genetics and cytogenetics along with abnormalities in human genetic inheritance. Diagnosis treatment and counseling of genetic disorders.

PHARMACOLOGY

Study of basic principles of understanding drug actions, interactions, adverse effects and clinical uses. Course includes pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics of drugs used therapeutically in clinical practice. Course includes comprehensive review and lab methods.

MICROBIOLOGY AND IMMUNOLOGY

Study of understanding the infectious agents causing disease with principles and practice of antibiotics used as therapy to combat them. Immunology deals with normal and abnormal defense mechanisms expressed in disease states. Also includes the concepts of immunodeficiency, hypersensitivity, and immune regulation with therapeutic indications. Course includes comprehensive review and lab methods.

PATHOLOGY

Study of diseases including etiology, pathogenesis, gross and microscopic lesions with clinical correlations related to path physiological abnormalities of diseases. Course includes comprehensive review by organ systems-endocrine, nervous system, skin, hepatic, renal, respiratory, cardiovascular, urogenital and musculoskeletal systems.

PHYSICAL DIAGNOSIS & INTRODUCTION TO CLINICAL MEDICINE

Course review includes basic clinical exam skills, including history taking, and physical exam prior to entering the clinical medical program. Course includes comprehensive review of physical diagnosis with clinical correlation.
