SURGERY

In this clerkship the students learn the indications of surgical interventions at various levels and assists in major surgeries in the operating room, emergency room, and minor surgeries in the operating room. History taking, suturing, wound care, and post surgical follow up of patients is part of the learning process. Attending physicians evaluate the performance as per the standards set by the respective schools.

MEDICINE

In this clerkship the students learn to apply the previously acquired basic science knowledge, including skills in physical diagnosis to determine the cause of common illnesses. Students will be supervised closely and be given responsibilities to manage and clinically evaluate the patients. Diagnosis, differential diagnosis, lab data, management and follow up of most commonly encountered diseases processes are integral parts of the learning process. Attending physicians evaluate the performance as per the standards set by the respective schools.

PEDIATRICS

In this clerkship the students learn pediatric history taking skills, analyzing lab data, diagnosing and treating most common illnesses in children, in a outpatient, Emergency Room, Neonatal Intensive Care unit, and a transitional nursery setting. Attending physicians evaluate the performance as per the standards set by the respective schools.

FAMILY MEDICINE

In this clerkship the students learn the comprehensive management and care of adult, pediatric, meternal, geriatiric, surgical and emergency room patients in a community hospital based setting. Due to the growing demand of managed health care and necessity to treat illness before it becomes a major problem, this course is not an elective, but a requirement. Attending physicians evaluate the performance as per the standards set by the respective schools.

OBSTETRICS & GYNECOLOGY

In this clerkship the students learn the history taking skills in obstetrics and gynecology, prenatal care, normal deliveries, high risk obstetrics, and post partum management. Course, also includes diagnosis and treatment of sexually transmitted diseases and the fundamentals of family planning. Attending physicians evaluate the performance as per the standards set by the respective schools.

PSYCHIATRY

In this clerkship the students learn about major organic and functional illnesses, such as schizophrenia, personality disorders, affective and anxiety disorders through taking a detailed psychiatric history and performing mental status examinations. They also learn the pharmaco therapy of treating major psychiatric illness. Attending physicians evaluate the performance as per the standards set by the respective schools.

ELECTIVE ROTATIONS

In these clerkships, students will be counseled to select those areas of interests in which they excel and have expressed an interest. Commonly recommended electives include: Dermatology, Radiology, Ophthalmology, Neurology, Cardiology, Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, Allergy and Immunology, Anesthesiology, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Gerontology, Nephrology, Orthopedic Surgery, Rheumatology, Oncology, Pathology, Infectious Disease, etc. Students must complete at least 30 weeks of elective clinical rotations. Attending physicians evaluate the performance as per the standards set by the respective schools.
